I Surrender

surrender

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. – Reinhold Niebuhr

You’ll find this funny, but I found this quote off the wall at Pieology (you know the place where you build your own pizza and it’s ready in 5 minutes).  In a way it sounds biblical too, like we are not in complete control of our lives which is often the source of grief for many pride-filled hardheaded knuckleheads like me.  Sadly that is the consequence we bear for being selfish and arrogant, although this world of ours has always ‘taught’ us that failure is never an option and to never surrender, but always stand tall and face whatever comes our way and fight.  So this quote really juxtaposes that, and if you have ever studied the Bible, to surrender does not mean you are a complete loser.  Rather you are giving your life to God to mold and shape it as he decides for each and every person on earth with every perfect intention to give us a joyful and fulfilling lives.  Now that does not mean one should just let go of everything and just lie down do nothing; no even the Bible does not condone that, that’s called laziness.  There are some things life we can control, but fear will get in the way.  Luckily that can be solved by simple act of asking God for help to give you courage to take control of what you can.  And all we need is a little critical thinking to discern what we can or cannot control, and accept our strengths and limitations as we have.  So remember kids, surrender does not always make you a loser, just when you know things are beyond your control, and don’t be afraid to take chances on what you can.

Remember this quote and have great week!

Lisa Lee is an artist and writer based in Southern California. She was educated at Cal State University Long Beach where she received her BFA in Illustration, and originally focused her career goal in animation and/or comic books. After eight years freelancing on various projects from web graphics to concept art she now devotes full time to painting and drawing as well as writing and producing graphic novels. She combines her past experiences in animation and graphic art with the elements of modern masters such as Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Keith Haring. Much of her style revolves around Expressionism and Pop Art, and she treats each piece independently of one another; in short, she uses different styles and techniques for different subject matters. Her interests spans a wide array, from social and political issues, popular culture, movies, history, mythology, and her own personal experiences. She tends to shift back and forth between the light and the dark side; her work will often reflect her mood. When not associating herself with art Lisa enjoys movies, listening to music, driving around aimlessly, and occasionally dabbles on weird hobbies such as cooking, jewelrymaking, and picking weeds.
