Last month the world mourned the loss of yet another pop icon, Prince. The singer, songwriter, musician, actor, and producer that gave us enduring hits like “Purple Rain” “When Doves Cry” “1999” “Kiss” to name a few, was only 57 and still going strong in his 30+ years of career, he was to America what David Bowie was to the UK; and this year we lose both of them. 2016 has been a strange year so far-I wonder who’s next.
Since I’ve done a tribute portrait of Bowie it’s only natural I do one for Prince as well. And it’s easy to choose the right images and motifs that suits him best. And certainly no Prince portrait would be complete without the famous Purple.
RIP Prince. May you dance in purple rain for all eternity.
BONUS: Here is a short video of the painting’s progress. Sorry for the crap music, they won’t let me use one of his songs.
