James 3:10New International Version (NIV)
Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.
There are many sayings about the power of the human tongue. Not just for eating and rolling and whatever nasty tricks one can play with the long chunk of flesh inside the mouth. Yes tongues are important for talking clearly. Ever tried talking without moving the tongue? I sure tried, it ain’t easy.
Some say the tongue is mightier than the sword. More like a double-edged sword. A sword is used to defend one’s self or another, at the same time it is used to kill. That’s what words do. What we say to another can be beneficial to their well-being, and at the same time the wrong things we say can destroy a relationship or a person, sometimes without meaning to. That is why it is important to think before we utter a word, but of course that’s often easier said than done…
Actually I’m not at all happy with this piece; it didn’t quite come out the way I envisioned. I will consider this a FAIL though I won’t toss it into the garbage. I will definitely come back to this subject from time to time, it’s that important.
