I like it when musicians take inspirations from well known piece of art and incorporate them in their music videos. That’s one of my favorite things about mv’s: the visual and artistic interpretations of their songs. And it just plain sucks that MTV is not like what it used to be, it’s far more dumb reality shows than music videos; why the hell they still call themselves Music Television?
One example I’d like to share tonight is Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Other Side.” This is probably one of their best visual presentations, among few others like “Californication,” which I’ll save for another time. A song about struggles with drug abuse it takes place in an eerie surrealistic dreamscape which most notably resembles the works of Rene Magritte, though I must say I’m not really a big fan of Surrealism, even though most of my work somewhat borders alongside it. It gives you an impression of how drugs can really mess with your head trapping you in a distorted sub reality filled with lopsided buildings, zombie like nurses, creepy shadows and one giant ass crow. Any fans of RHCP should enjoy this video.
I love the music and artistry in that video. And I agree about MTV. It is so stupid now! I really miss watching all of the old rock videos they made in the 80’s! Have a great day! I love your new photo on your blog. 🙂
